Reliance Jio who disrupted Indian Telco market with their 4G introduction has been already passed from few allegations in past about their user’s data security. Now millions of Jio users data has been leaked online on site magicapk.com and first reported by the fonearena.
On this site users, several important details are leaked Name, Mobile Number, Email-Id, Area Circle, Activation Date & AADHAR number. To check the data users have to enter their Jio mobile number in mobile search section, which reveals all users all sensitive information.
This is the biggest data breach/leak as there are around 120 million Jio users & it certainly creates question how one can get the access to a database and uploaded on site and millions of users personal information is at the stake of their privacy & security. Though as of now magicapk seems taken down by the authority’s request & account suspended notice show on an opening of the site. Though Jio doesn’t officially confirm that says these claims are false & users data leaked online are unauthentic.
In talk by fonearena to Jio spokesperson told “We have come across the unverified and unsubstantiated claims of the website and are investigating it. Prima facie, the data appears to be unauthentic. We want to assure our subscribers that their data is safe and maintained with highest security. Data is only shared with authorities as per their requirement. We have informed law enforcement agencies about the claims of the website and will follow through to ensure strict action is taken.”
Jio is once again in serious trouble concerning users data & raising questions that do telcos company sells their user data? It also led to thinking that what if users AADHAR data leaked online, as nowadays everywhere AADHAR is used for authentication & verification, we understand the government has proven security measures but they have to put more strict measures on the table for the company’s wants to use this information.
